KAD has been hosting statewide conferences since 1909!
KAD brings
the tradition of statewide Symposiums so that the Deaf
community can provide a voice to Deaf issues and needs.
The President's Tour will allow KAD Members to have close
contact and access to KAD.
KAD will provide
workshops and training in various areas (i.e. diversity,
leadership, advocacy, etc.).
KAD provided
funds for our deaf students to attend the Youth Leadership
Camp (YLC), the Close-Up program in Washington D.C., and
other similar camps across the country. KAD believes in
investing our future on Deaf youths.
KAD sent 7
Delegates to the NAD Region II Conference at Camp Lakodia
in Madison, South Dakota on September 13-15, 2007 and
3 Delegates to the 49th Biennial NAD Conference in New
Orleans, LA on July 5-11, 2008.
KAD participates
in the annual Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at the
Topeka Capitol. KAD continues to network with many statewide
groups.
Over the past
8 years, KAD sponsored several picnics and political
rallies during summer months across the state in Clinton
Lake,
Shawnee Mission, Manhattan, Wichita, Hays & Salina,
KS (July 2008) so Deaf people have a chance to participate
and meet the candidates running for state offices, U.S.
Congress and U.S. Senate. These rallies attracted 100
- 300 deaf people from Kansas. There were widespread media
coverages in local newspapers, television and radio.
KAD was the
major organization involving the establishment of the
Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH)
as a state agency with the help of the Kansas Legislators.
KAD still monitors
captioning qualities and continues to work with
the local television stations. Also monitors the quality
of interpreters in Kansas.
KAD still participate
in the advocacy and rights of Deaf and hard of
hearing individuals in Kansas. KAD NEEDS YOU.
